This year we are nominating Lions Muny’s Dr. General Marshall Tree for Austin’s Tree of the Year! 🌳
Dr. General Garwood Marshall grew up in the historically black community of Clarksville and worked as a caddie at Lions Municipal Golf Course as a boy. He joyfully witnessed the early integration of the course in 1950. Dr. Marshall became a professor of math and head golf coach at Huston-Tillotson College, offering full scholarships to young men who played on his golf team. During his entire life he fought for the preservation of Muny and for equal access to public facilities. He loved the beautiful heritage oak trees at Muny, and in honor of him, the beautiful oak that sits behind the driving range is named after him!
Additional nominations can be made at the link in bio 💚
