“When it comes to the 100-year-old Lions Municipal Golf Course (Muny), there’s arguably no bigger fan than retired professional golfer Ben Crenshaw. A lifelong resident of West Austin, he played golf at Muny as a child, sparking a love for the game. In many ways, it’s a foundational piece of his illustrious golf career, which includes winning two Masters.⁠

But today Muny is in trouble: its lease is expiring. The University of Texas, Crenshaw’s alma mater, has long held the 141-acre tract of land with an eye toward eventual development. The prospect of losing this historic course unleashed a passionate effort called The Muny Conservancy, with Crenshaw serving as co-chair.⁠

Together with his wife Julie, he is leading the charge to preserve the course.⁠”
